How Dare you Bash the Phantom

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

Well I do apologize for the delay in new postings, but I have been having problems with my DB. So now that everything is reletivly back to normal, I can start to bitch about things again.
First off, I know alot has happened since I last wrote, so to get those out of the way first Happy Holidays, have a great New Years, and Go Bills. Now for the subject that is truly pinching my sac, and that is the constent bashing of Joel Schumacher's adaptation of Andrew Loyd Webbers Phantom of the Opera. I frequently read a number of movie sites as I have menthoned in the past, and Rotten Tomatoes happens to be one of them. And it is a great site, I get informed and I toy with the forums. But today I was reading the reviews, and I must say I can't believe that these critics are terring this movie apart.

"The screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical lacks both authentic romance and the thrill of memorable spectacle."
-- A.O. Scott, THE NEW YORK TIMES
"Though admirably anti-MTV, Schumacher's film is often so baroque, it comes off like some joke."
-- Bob Strauss, LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS
The splats go on and on, with much lesser numbers of positive critiques. So I felt it incombant apon myself to cast a review that displays my total aproval and how happy I was with the films outcome. I am a fan of the musical -which I have seen 4 times and no I am not gay-, the first time a saw it in Toronto I was just about 12 years old, and I thought it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. And from that day I begged my family to take me back so I could recreate the drug like chills the performace gave me. So needless to say when the movie came out I was one of the more excited people I know about the flick. But being a movie cynosure -sort of, dork is more like it- I was worried that when this movie was made they would ruin the essence of it and cover it with media bullshit. So I went to the movie house with mixed feelings of excitment and anxiety, I sat down in the seat, and waited for the first sceen.
Many of the negative movie critics have menthoned that the adaptation was not original, and they are correct. The movie is primarily line for line the musical right down to the raising of the chandelier in the first sceen -which gave me chills, and that was what I was looking for-. You see this musical is such a master piece that you can not, and I stress can not, mess with it to much. Any one who has sceen Webbers Phantom will tell you that it is near the most perfect and enjoyable thing they have ever sceen. If the movie was basterdized or 21st centuryized , it would have been rejected by the audiences like Gigli. But the fact the Andrew Webber was one of the producers, I can see why it was left alone for the most part. A few minor modifications were made, but this was neccessary due to the simple fact that it is a frikin movie. The actors I feel did a amazing job of both playing thier characters and singing these beathtaking songs. But I must say I was beside myself with Emma Rossum as Christine Daae. Rossum I just may think ranks up there with my personal new movie hottie, and she is only 19! She looked beautiful in every sceen, and her voice is fantastic -which you may have heard in "Song Catcher"-. And also her breasts were heaving in every sceen, always heaving I couldn't take my eyes off them. All in all I loved this movie, and I will totally see it again in the theaters, and I will buy it when it comes out on DVD.

 New Flicks up and Coming

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

It's funny, when I started this blog, it was my intention to write scribblings on all of the areas of my semi-interesting life. But now I see a trend growing which is surrounding my passion -or geekdome- for films and film players. I am by no means thinking of creating a blog concentrated of movies, but I have so much damn fun writing about them. Well with out any further waiting let me get tot the point of this entry.

As you know one of my newest daily reads is Movie Blog. It realy is a great site -and using the same CMS as I do so it does give me new ideas-. Any way, I was reading it this morning and I found 2 new trailer links that I have been waiting for, for some time now. The first is the released trailer for the new Pink Panther movie starring Steve Martin. When I first read about this project I was very worried, since Steve's -refering to him with first names like I know the guy- career has been going so well, I would just hate to see him do something bad. But as I commented on Movie Blog, I think the supporting cast will give the film more body and has the potential of being truly funny. The trailer has just been released and you can get to it via here.
Also over the summer I started hearing the buzz of a live action movie of Frank Millers Sin City. Right off the bat I knew that if this was going to be done right, it would have to be done in a very artsy comic booky fasion, kina like Tim Burton's Batman meets Dick Tracy. Well that trailer is now out and it looks realy cool. Bruce Willis plays Hartigan, and Mickey Rourke is playing the carzy ass Marv. The cast goes on but I will let you guys get that from the links. I must say I am looking forward to this one.

 Merry Frick'n Christmas

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

I am not really anxed about the holiday. Actually I am haveing a pretty good one. I have gotten all of my shopping done -well mostly anyway-, I have been spending time with those close to me, and I have made new friends. I have a short work week this week -which is great- and another short week next week. I am going to be brining in the New year with a bang, and there are a number of things on the horizon for 2005. I am very optimistic for the comming year, and seeing how things had gone in 2004, I think things are getting better all the time. So Merry X-mas, Happy Hanukkah and a plesant Quanza. What will 2005 bring?

How Sweet are the Buffalo Bills?

Found in ... Some Kind`a News

Totally awsome weekend. Finally those bumbs at Inside the NFL will start talking about the Bills and their 5 game winning streak. Of course the wide card slot for the playoffs is still a small hope, but non the less these boys have shown me something that I have not seen in a Bills team for years. First off, thery are the first Bills team to win this many away game scince our Super Bowl team in 95 -I could be wrong about the year-. Also they have scored more points than any onther Bills team in history within the last games. Well more points than any other roster within 5 games. The Bills played spectacular against a unpredictible Cincinnati team. The Bengals have known to come strong, I mean just look at their prior game Vs. the Patriots. They only lossed by one touchdown, which for any team in the NFL this is an accomplishment, and a well layed game.
McGahee did get injured in the 2nd quarter yesterday, and it is commented that he will sit out of next Sundays game against the 49ers. Which I think is fine, San Fran is the worst team in the NFL and I see no problems next week. I feel much more comfortable letting Willis rest up so he can be at 100% for the finally Vs. the Steelers.
TKO Spikes had a key interseption run in for 6 points. This obviously was very important for Takeo since the Jungle was once his home field in Cincinnati. Playing against your old team -unless your Drew Bledsoe- is always a fun day.
Granted Jacksonville won yesterday, but Baltimore did not, which does make things better for us at home. All we need is to finish up the regular season strong, and we can possibily beat the Jets in a tie for the playoff spot. Lets just hope that the NY Jets fall apart in these wanning weeks.

 Charlize Theron as Aeon Flux

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

So I was popping around on my daily reads, and I came across a posting on Movie Blog which lead me on a clicking adventure. I found myself on a site -which I have added to the BerfRoll- named Coming Soon. This site is one of my new favorites, it lists tons of movie news, and some pretty rare stuff at that. This is were I found the news of the live action version of MTV's Aeon Flux. Now one of the hottest of hotties Charlize Theron is going to be playing the sexy/sexualy flexable action heroin. I mean look at her in the jet black short hair in the picture -robbed from coming soon I must say-, she looks amazing.

UPDATE:Plot(source=Movie Source)-In a world where humanity has been ravaged by disease save for one city, Aeon Flux, a top operative for the rebellion discovers a secret that makes her question whether she is fighting for the right side.

On Coming Soon, they posted an article about their visit to the set and interviews with the key people. Theron had this to say about being Aeon Flux;

"As an actor I think it gives you a nice range. You get to go from one place and build quite a nice arc, and to have that already embedded in the character makes it easier for me. She is pretty self-destructive and I think sometimes thinks of herself as indestructible, so I can kind of get into that. I like that."
So keep an eye -or two- out for the upcoming action sci-fi adventure of Aeon Flux, sceduled to be released some time in September of 2005. Oh and for those of you who don't know, Aeon Flux was all about the tounge action :P

Why Would You Ever Buy "A Christmas Story"?

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

I have been seeing ads for the ever popular holiday movie that we all hold so close to our hearts "A Christmas Story" all oer the place this December. Why is this? I will tell you why -because I know you are anxious to find out-, it is due to the holidays and every holiday movie ever created since before tecnocolor is on sale. "Frosty the Snowman", "Santa is Coming to Town" and you can't forget "A Christmas Carol" -link to my favorite version-. So every one is dumping this stuff off at discount prices, and the consumer is eating it up. But why would you buy the DVD of "A Christmas Story"? I am certainly not basing the film in anyway. I too feel very strongly towards Ralphy and his family, I also laugh each time I see Flick stick his tounge to the lamp post on the Tripple Dog Dare. What child has not encounterd those hurdles in life. I always had that one gift that my parents would tease me all season with,

"You can't have that, your to young; mabey when you get older we can talk about it."
Furthermore; I too had a bully just as evil as Jeff Farcus -being that I was a fat boy-. The father character is stern strick but yet still lovable, and the mother is just like the one all children wish for up until she puts the soap in Ralphy's mouth. So why shouldn't I buy this movie if I love it so?
Ok fine I will spill it if you havn't already come up with it yourself. It's on t.v all fricken day on Christmas. Back to back all day long, morning noon and night. Shit by the time dinner is over I have had enough of the Bumpisus's dogs and the Christmas Story to last me a G.D year anyway. So have a great ho

Well I have known very little about this project, but from the posting on Movie Blog I am getting excited about the Transformers Movie. Yes those Autobots will be alive and fighting on the big screen in no time. Matter of fact the movies director John Rogers has started a Blog on his progress. Movie Blog has a posting today with an interview with the producer Don Murphy discussing who the movie will be directed towards, and the anticipation of placing Optimus on the big screen.

What Comes First, The Schooner or Winnebago?

Found in ... Leisure Time

For those who know me well -and not that well for that matter-, I have had a stiffy for sailboats. I have been trying to save some money to buy a used boat this year. Nothing to fancy but something in the range of 19-21 ft with a wheel. It would be awsome, going out with the crew and playing pirate on the weekends. Now a few week ago Anth and I went to the Bills game to see them spank the Rams, and I saw this old style Winnebago -which I thought was supper coo-. It looked a basic as could be, and was a classic, around 1976 was my guess. I like classic looking things; they have more character. So when we went to the game yesterday -in the snow and cold, but was a great time anyway-, we saw it again and thought it would be alot of fun to use one of those. So I have been mulling over the idea of going in on one as a friendly project btween some friends and I. Lets just hope there would still be room for the boat. -the RV thing is prob. just a fantasy, I have alot of those-

 The Mr. Bungle Divorce

Found in ... Music That I like

My good friend Buke sent me a mail this morning with a link pointing to RollingStone News with an interesting story about the break-up of Mr. Bungle. For those of you who do not know who Mr. Bungle is, they were a very experimental type band, who had some great albums. They would only get together every few years to record albums, since all of the members were in other bands. But now front man Mike Patton tells RollingStone why the band is no more.

"I'm at a point now where I crave healthy musical environments, where there is a genuine exchange of ideas without repressed envy or resentment, and where people in the band want to be there regardless of what public accolades may come their way; Unfortunately, Mr. Bungle was not one of those places."
It has been a sad week for those who like this type of music. First the event with Dimebag, and now this. Who will step up and be our next hero?

 Day of Heavy Metal Morning

Found in ... Music That I like

This morning I was shocked to hear that X Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell aka Darrell Abbott was shot and killed by a crazed fan at last nights performance in Columbus Ohio. Better known for his slick hardcore riffs as the lead guitarist of the ever popular band Pantera, Dimebag was conciderd one of the worlds best heavy metal performers. Recently touring with his new band Danger Plan, Dimebag was gun down by 5 rounds to the chest. Also killed in the attack was one other member of the band -identity unknown at this time-. The shooter after killing Dimebag and other band member, turned and opened fire into the crowd. A total of 4 deaths accrued before police shot and killed the disgruntled fan. Today is truly a shock to the rock n' roll community, and the millions of fans who will always remember the bad ass from Pantera. RIP Dimebag; RIP.

Volkswagen Westfalia - aka Hippy Van of the Millenium

Found in ... Techno-Toys

When I saw this on Gizmodo today, I nearly craped my pants. But after reading the posting on it, it is absolutly true. Volkswagen -one of the best car companies in the world- has released pictures of a new concept van based on the classice VW Westfalia. Gizmodo states that it will be displayed at the Detroit auto show next month. Also it's brother weblog Jalopnik has a good number of pics. Personaly I think this car is sweet. If it comes out and I am still of a spunkful age, and granted it isn't going to be a 30K car, I will pick one up. I can just imagine heading up to the ski slopes with a lady for the weekend -wait , screw that- heading up to the slopes with 2 ladies for the weekend, or perhapes to the Adirondacks, and folding that baby out right before I fold the other baby out. -Well we all have to have fantasies, and I bet with all that glass, it will take awhile to clean off all the bong resin-

 Lichtenstein for X-Mas

Found in ... I Don't Know if it's Art; But I Like it

A few years ago I bought 3 subway size posters of a few of my favorite bands; Saffron from Republica -she is such a babe-, Jamiroquai and Faith No More's Who Cares Alot -the UK version w/ Benny Hill on it-. Now these guys are huge, and look great on my wall. But I didn't just pin these things on the wall like some college squatter, I went and had them professionally mounted on wood -because they were to big to frame- and allthough it cost me a pretty penny, they look awsome. Now for many years now my favorite artist has been Roy Lichtenstein because of his comic book like paintings, and captions. Ever since I was a highschool kid I totally dug his work. Then when I found his painting Drowning Girl I completly fell in love with the piece -basically beacuse my name is on it and the girl looks like Saffron-. So this year I have asked my dear dear sister to possibly purchase this print for me, and I also menthoned it to my newly shaven and rather dapper father -can you sense the ass kissing here-. I figure I would hold on to it, and when I could save up the cash I would mount it like the others, and this would cost a bit since it is 47 1/4 x 55 1/2 in. But it would look fricken sweet.

 Out and About in Buffalo

Found in ... Leisure Time

So the last month or so has been very strange. I'm going to try my best not to write to much about my X, since my friends told me it was a sissy winy thing to do, but hey; I figure I have to take off the gloves and not be inhibited about the topics I post on this blog, if I want it to be successful.
So back to the story. This weekend was a real winner. First work actually didn't drive me mad this week. Granted I still had times where I wanted to stand up and belt out my discontent with the company and the work I am doing, but I choke those feelings back, I think that is the more professional thing to do. As always when Friday rolls around, I am thankful for the workweek to be at its end. Then I immediately charge through the house gathering my things for a weekend at my buddies Anthony and Mordiki's place. See this year I have been living at home with the fam, so needless to say when it isn't a work night, I am out never to return until Sunday night. It's a needed escape from the constant questions and orders. Each weekend is planned to be 2 nights of drunken merriment and you cant forget about darts. But sometimes this doesn't happen, especially when my friends and I are the world biggest procrastinators and lazy bones.
Night 1 was spent at one of our favorite holes in the wall Bruners. Everyone has to have their favorite hole in the wall bar, the place that you are always comfortable, you get drinks for free, and on the rare occasion there might actually be women in the bar, but of course you never actually talk to them.
Then on day 2, the crew went off to a Buffalo icon, The Old Pink. Way back in my fathers days of drunken flirt days the bar was know as the Pink Flamingo, and famous for their steak sandwiches and hookers. But today it is better known for the steak sandwiches and normally good music, but on this weekend day 2 it was emo night, and I hate emo. Nothing but wimpy winning pussies signing about love and gray rainbows. Despite the musical selections we hung out and took the night for what it was, simply a laid back time with some beers, the boys and a crushed velvet picture of the king of rock and roll. The next stop was not to far, we ventured over to the Brick Bar right next store, which I now feel was the best move of the night. The bar was filled with a great mix of people, and at the level of intoxication I was at; I was in prime form for some ladies man one-liners. Just kidding, I have never been one for cheesy notes.
It's strange, at times I know everyone has tried to hard to impress, and it ends up failing every time, but when you are at the moments of nonchalant and unaware you can shine. And it was in this mode that I met someone. Now lets not get carried away here, I certainly didn't get lucky or wake up next to some stranger, but I did hang out with some new people, and gave me something new to think about besides what my X might be doing.
This morning I woke up differently than I have since the release. Well as soon as I cleaned off the hangover and had some hair of the dog, I didn't think of anything depressing at all. Finally light at the end of the tunnel, and a clear sense that every thing is going to be OK. Now that I think about it, that tunnel wasn't so long.

Kevin Smith to do Clerks 2

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

It has been some time since I checked up on the Viewaskew web site. So today while I was working I did just that. See I run alot of reports, so when these guys are buildingi themselves, I check email and shit like that. Of course I also do work as well. Anyway, I was checking up on what Kevin Smith is doing in the near future, I mean he has to do something worth while, I love the guy but come on Jersey Girl wasn't as good as his other flixs. So what does the young director choose as his next project, nonthing other than the sequel to the movie he started his career with; Clerks 2 The Passion of the Clerks. I shit you not, this is really happening, I even think I am a bit on the late side of finding this out. Well you can read all about it in the Viewaskew message board.

Slashdot had a very interesting posting today, discussing fraudulent clicks on thier Ad-Sense program. If your not familiar with Ad-Sense, your looking at it buddy. The ads by google on the side of my blog and on the individual pages are powerd by Ad-Sense. When I started up with it, the disclaimer agreement states that fraudulent clicks will not be accounted for, plus I figured they could track IP addresses or something. But shit, if Google is getting concerned about it, I should take advantage of it now, before they do begin to take proactive steps.

 MT Please Work For Me

Found in ... Blog Stuff

For the last few days I have been trouble shooting this problem I am having with my instalation of MT 2.6. I even notified a Professor of mine Liz Lawley. She had instructed me to check all of the paths in the config section, and to try and creating a test blog to recreate the problem. I checked the DB and the entries are stored in the correct locations, but still they are not displaying on the html pages. Please I need advice :(

UPDATE:Well I fixed it, prob. not the eaisy way, but now that I think of it, it wasn't that hard. All I did was to export the weblog data, I then recreated a new weblog in a temp location. I then imported the blog data to the new -same named- weblog. Finally I removed the weblog from the temp location, and overwrited the deleted prior one -even though you delete a weblog in MT mangmt. the files remain in your archives and index.html. Then go back to the new blogs config and reset the paths from tempo to the correct location. Bingo every thing seems to be working just fine now.

 Sprint's New Slickster Mobile

Found in ... Techno-Toys

One of my daily reads is the gadgets weblog Gizmodo, which is a publication of Gawker based out of NYC. Any way I'm rambiling let me get back to the point. I read this blog on a regular basis, and today I see this posting on the new Sprint phone that will be released. It is the LG PM-325 with Bluetooth. Now for some time now I have been a Sprint customer, and I have always had a rather larg phone bill at the end of the month. Matter of fact, even after changing my plan, I am still getting screwed with an $80 phone bill. My friends all have great plans, with Verizon, or Cricket (who ever?); except Buke, he pays a friggen fortune for his phone! Again I am rambling, but it is nice to see that sprint is atleast stepping it up in the terms of technology, now that I think of it, my signal is pretty bad to at times.

Kazaa; Not Just Some Stupid Shaq Movie

Found in ... Some Kind`a News

On SlashDot today I was reading this interesting post about the Kazaa trial. Number one; I didn't know Kazaa was on trial, and B; although an interesting post by Tim, I could give a rats pooper about Kazaa on trial. Now I do have fond memories of downloading, sharing or what ever you want to call it (Arrrrrr ye buck), from Kazaa. But soon after the massive amounts of KMFDM and Faith No More tracks recorded live from Putastain and the artsy filmography of "Jizz on my ass you booty man", my computer begain to react in an ill manner. Yes I was bombarded with spy ware and the PCU was always used up by the software. Not only that but I also remember getting so frustrated with the machine, I reformatted the sucker and started from scratch. So I say go to hell Kazaa, you go to hell and you die. I'm using Limewire now, and they have "Booty Man" too.

Well I have this weblog I set up for a local fishing shop in town, you may remember me referenceing it in an earlier post. One of the things I did for them was to set them up with a weblog to post news, fishing stories and stuff like that. Well just recently I was notified that the weblog was not publishing new posts to the web page. This is certainly not good, so I must solve this problem. I am using an installation of MT 2.6 and this has been going on since the 22nd of Nov. I tried posting a question on the Support Forum but still no good response. I really hope this isn't an issue with the DB, but I would like to be able to fix this with as little work as possible.
