Is the Dentist Truly Evil, or Perhaps it's the Hygienist ?

Found in ... Brain Spill

I hate the Dentist, I dread entering that sterile white room and lying down on the Craftmatic adjustable torture chair. I have not been to a dentist in roughly 2 years, this is not do to lack of hygiene, but rather lack of health insurance. Now that I am covered I saw it necessary to go back to the place that always see,s to chastise me for poor oral maintenance, and subject myself to the long forgotten mouth pain. I say mouth pain because I think that mouth pain should be classified in its own category of pain. Think about it, you kick me in the shin, sure it is goig to hurt, but when you dig deep in between my gums and teeth with a tiny stainless steel hook, the throbbing and irritation far exceeds any muscle or joint pain I have experienced in a long long time. Perhaps I am being to hard on these fine people who have chosen this profession. All I know is that when I walked into that office yesterday, I did not feel my heart beat in my mouth. When I left, I could taste my heat beats per minute. I have been hearing the same song and dance from these people since I was 10 years old. "You need to floss better." "You have the begining of gum disease." "If you keep smoking your teeth are going to fall out by the time you are 40." So my question is simple, if I have been maintaining the same brushing and flossing schedule since I was 10, and the hygienist has been warning me since I was 10, don't you think by now I would have serious periodontal disease? Why is it always the same diagnosis time after time? And finally are these hygienists the true mosaicists and not the dentist. Ask yourself who is causing the pain during your cleaning. The dentist usually just comes along after you have been scraped into submission and counts your teeth, which induces no additional pain, but that G.D hygienist seems to enjoy it a bit to much.

Rebirth: Todd McFarlane Prepares to Release a Newer More Bad Ass Spawn

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube , Some Kind`a News

Ugo.com has published an interview with Spawn creator Todd McFarlane today. Funny; when I was in highschool I was a huge Spawn fan, but after the flop of the 1997 live action film I have seemed to lost interest. This interview I am refiring to is pretty interesting, it certainly tells you what the hell he's been doing for the past 5 years -besides making toys- and it dives into what his future plans are for Spawn. One of the more curiosity raising subjects was the mention of a new animated series that is aimed for cabel or theatrical distribution and will be titled "Cronicles of Al Simons" -or something like that-. T.M does state that he uses Jaws as one of his inspirations in the series, making Spawn much more allusive and hidden. The interview also continues to cover his new series titled "Twisted Tales" which will be airing on will air on Fox in the near future. McFarlane has also been commissioned to continue the Simpsons toy line -which has been very popular among collectors (Bukezilla)-. So there you have it, a brief wrap up of the future of one of our favorite superheros. With any luck it wont go stale like his other ventures.

Face Lift: The Time has Come for BerfNet to have a New Look

Found in ... Blog Stuff

Due to an increase in my client base, I feel it to be important to give BerfNet a face lift. This will be a 3rd time I have redesigned BerfNet, and that is OK, times change and so does my audience. My traffic has been increasing by at least 1000 visitors a month, so I would like to continue that trend. To do that I feel a new look to BerfNet is required. I will be developing the new look on a separate server and transfering the new templates over once completed -that way you can all continue to enjoy my ramblings without interruption-. So stay tuned I plan on putting my soul into this one.

New Physics: Six Apart in Motion Stays in Motion

Found in ... Blog Stuff

Six Apart Ltd. is on a roll. I continue to read good things about Greg and Mena and the impressive directions Six Apart is going. Now it seems that web hosting provider 2MHost has formed a partnership with the creators of the blogging tool Movable Type and will be offering it to their members.

The partnership enables 2MHost to bundle Movable Type software into its existing hosting solution, providing its customers with Movable Type's feature-rich, robust blogging platform at an affordable price.

"Movable Type is one of the best blogging solutions in the market today and we wanted to enable our clients to benefit from its robust features," says 2MHost owner Mike Noman. "We realize not everybody wants to take the time to install the software or pay the added cost to purchase a stand-alone copy of Movable Type, so we've streamlined the process and eliminated much of the up front costs."

This is excellent news, so if you are a fan of Six Apart, a fan of Movable Type or just some one who is not scared to take a few risks, I would keep my eye on this company because you will be seeing big things.

Life Hacker Saved me From My God Awful Spelling Problem

Found in ... Handy Do-Dads

Life Hacker had such a helpful post today, I just had to blog it. Not only did I add it to my blog, I even had to create a whole new catergory (Handy Do-Dads)to place it in. This truly productive little app. is tinySpell, a simple spell checker that checks on the fly as you type. It works in any windows application and even on websites. This is great for me since my spelling is amazingly poor -my teachers used to make fun of me- and I am constantly writing in this blog and normally leaving numerous spelling errors on the page. Now I can write like the wind without having to worry about using word to check the spelling of phrases I am questioning. Thank you Life Hacker you have proven yourself to me again.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Ya Frick'n Prostitute!

Found in ... Some Kind`a News

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all. I know this is a bit late in the day, but to be honest, I already celebrated the holiday on Sunday. Of course I will be heading out tonight with a few close lads, and indulge ourselves in some corned beef and cabbage, plus a few tasty pints of Guinness, I wouldn’t be a true Scott if I didn’t. I would have felt bad if I finished today without posting on the holiday, so in the sprit of things here are a few links to help you get into the Celtic mood.

Feel free to add what you wish.

 The Social Computing Wars

Found in ... Blog Stuff

It is thought that the social computing wars have begun. I agree, and I feel that the noise some of these technologies have been making is certainly making big timers notice and attempt to get a piece of the pie. Yahoo is preparing to launch Yahoo 360, which will be their social computing venture. Google acquired Blogger a few years back, Microsoft began a social computing model which was rejected – but I believe they are going back to the drawing board on that one – and we can’t forget about our favorite people Sixapart – the creators of MovableType -. I think this is going to get exciting, especially from a developers perspective. I am also interested to see which idea goes the furthest. Will it be hosted services such as Typepad and Yahoo 360, or will it be development environments such as MT or WordPress. Any which way it goes, you can not deny the impact social computing has had on the Internet within the past year. Some universities are even creating Social Computing programs for their IT and MIS students.

Sign up for the Yahoo 360 Beta if your interested, it is said to launch next month.

Episode III: Excitement Gathers - This is going to be a Spectacle

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

This is terrible I know, 3 posts within the past few days surrounding Star Wars. But hey the final installment of the ageless saga will be projected onto the silver screen in less than 2 months. I can’t help myself I am so excited, this May 19th will be a personal holiday for sure. I hope you all have viewed the full length trailer, if not here are a few images that I find very cool. For starters we will be witnessing amazing light saber battles from some of the newest Jedi in the story. I’m looking forward to seeing Kit Fisto in action. Kit Fisto was just an extra in Episode II, but due to his popularity as a Jedi he has been placed in a good role for the last movie. Of course he will get cleaned out, but he fights next to Master Mace Windu, and you have to give him props for that. Speaking of Mace Windu – the only bad ass Jedi to sport a purple light saber – his final scenes is to be some of the most amazing fighting sequences in the entire saga. I’ve read that Jackson wanted to be sure that his character would not be forgotten after this flick.

Also we will see the introduction of the mighty Chewbacca which is very cool indeed. You may be saying to your self how is that possible. Well I will tell you my friend, Chewy is a few hundred years old by the time he shows up in the original trilogy, and ask yourself how did Obi Wan find Chewy so quickly at the Mos Esily spaceport, could it be because they know each other? Not to far fetched I think. I also think that the wookie presence will be very entertaining, every one loves a wookie and when we get to see them rip some shit up, that will be even more entertaining. Finally we see the rise of Vader, enough said

St. Paddy's Day Parade: Another Year and we all Survived

Found in ... Leisure Time , Picture Pages

Every year my friends and I take the Buffalo St. Paddy’s Day Parade very seriously. We don’t mess around; each year there is a new crazy story to tell and battle wounds to boot. This year I couldn’t get the following day off to recuperate, but I still made it out alive with only a minor headache at work today. I am trying to make up for the lack of pictures I took in Las Vegas, so I warn you there are many more in this collection. Check them out we had a great time.

In a Galaxy Far Far Away: The Trailer that gives me Chills

Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

I find it funny that I am posting 2 articles back to back that are Star Wars related – my Google ads will certainly reflect the sci-fi dorkness in no time -. But Jason over at Kottke.com is responsible for this one. I heard about the extended Episode III trailer last night, so I checked out Kottke.com to get the scoop. Jason has posted a link to the trailer, and I have to agree with him, it looks frick’n sweet. Obi’ Wan screaming engulfed by flames “You were supposed to be the one”, the reveling if the Emperor, massive Jedi battles and Wookie warriors, just a small dosage of what is to come. I am totally pumped for the end of this saga that has been such a large part of my youth – oh hell even now -.

Thanks Jason: Oh did I mention, you’re my hero.

"This Death Star is Fully Operational"

Found in ... Techno-Toys

Thanks to Gizmodo I will be tied up for a while and spending over $300.00 for a lego Death Star. I know it sounds cheesy but what can I say I am a Star Wars Dork. I try to hide it, but sometimes it sneaks out and shows its head, and then the cat is out of the bag. But this is really cool, Bukezilla will prob talk about it a bit as well. I currently have Darth Vaders Tie Fighter, an X-wing and a Y-wing - don't worry about not knowing what these are, it's better that you don't - and this would be a fantastic addition to my "I have trouble getting laid after chicks see my apartment" collection.

 Las Vegas: A Photo Essay

Found in ... Leisure Time , Picture Pages

As I mentioned before, I am back from Las Vegas and holly shit what a trip. I think we spent a few too many days there – at least that was what every one we met told us – five whole days in sin city, and let me tell you friend, 3 days would have sufficed. I would love to write all night about my experiences but I just don’t think I would do it justice, so instead I am just going to show you the pictures I took – when I could remember to bring my camera -. As you will see the majority of the pictures were took in the hotel room, so you will really have to use your imagination; but common who wants to lugg around a camera in Vegas baby.
