Happy Belated 4/20 - I'll Give You 1 Guess as to Why I Forgot!
Found in ... Some Kind`a News
Yesterday was the day of days for pot heads all around the world. A famous holiday that is celebrated all day long every year on April 20th. That would be 4.20 the national pot smoking holiday. For those of you who are not educated in the "head" way, 420 is the code for a police marijuana bust, so in our rebellious manner we celebrate that number by lighting up every day at 4:20 (am & pm). But once a year it is 4.20 all day long, smokers rejoice, dance -if they can move-, eat -we certainly eat- and pass the spliff to the left hand side. Personally I no longer celebrate this holiday (wink wink; ignore the picture of the Bull Dog Cafe) since I'm all grown up now, but I always think back to my youth and become rather melancholily. How did you celebrate your 420?

Adobe Acquires Macromedia Creating a Software Power House
Found in ... Some Kind`a News , Technoramblings
Watching the business report this morning on channel 7 news -I think the chick is hot- I was shocked to hear that Adobe has acquired Macromedia. Not completely sure this was fact, I went to Macromedia's website to see if there was any sign of change. Already the title flash has Adobe incorporated into it. Is this a good merger? I would think so and it's moments like this where I wish I had more money to play with. I would love to get into some Adobe stock after this news.
April 18 (Bloomberg) -- Adobe Systems Inc., maker of Acrobat and Photoshop software, agreed to buy Macromedia Inc. for about $3.4 billion, adding programs that display images and sounds on Web pages. Investors will receive 0.69 share, worth $41.86 at the close of trading April 15, for each Macromedia share, San Jose, California-based Adobe said in a statement today. That values San Francisco-based Macromedia at a 25 percent premium.I am a hobby user of Fireworks and Photoshop CS, both must haves for web design enthusiasts. I can not even fathom how powerful these applications will become after joining forces.

Commercial Crazies: This is Frick'n Hysterical

The following link is a very funny foreign commercial that a co-worker sent me. I don't know what she was trying to tell me, but I laughed at it none the less. It comes right out of nowhere with the product message and catches you a bit off guard.
Tell me what you think.

Silicone Back in Action: Hooray for Boobies
Found in ... Some Kind`a News
Yesterday the FDA showed signs supporting the new non-leak silicone implants to be placed back on the consumer market and lifting the ban. The ban on silicone implants has been in place since 1992 after the silicone holocaust, but now this new and improved silicone is discribed to be safe and leak proof due to it's gell composition. As scary as this can be, the FDA advisory panel voted 7-2 in support of the application. So it appears that the majority are big fans of these new boobies.
Being of scientific mind, I could not pass my opinion with out proper and thorough testing. This can be tricky; omitting important attribut comparisons can taint the data. After completing my research I have come to the following conclusion. There Awesome!!

Jesse's Venture: The Anticipated Club Diablo to Open Post May
Found in ... Leisure Time , Some Kind`a News
Those of you who have hung out in Buffalo's oldest Punk Rock bar the Continental, might recognize it's most famous employee Jesse. Ass kicker, bartender, talent booking, manager, store owner [second skin], real estate owner and coming soon night club owner. For years the underground community has been gossiping about the bar Jesse is building and finally our wait comes to a conclusion. Club Diablo is scheduled to have it's grand grand opening some time after May (you can get more information and updates on the clubs process at their web site).
This is great news for the city of Buffalo, which lives and breathes by it's constantly morphing night life. The demographic that the Continental attracts is a small percentage of the total liquor swilling population, and Club Diablo is not going to be the Continental part II. Diablo is for every one, a night club with an edge and surronded by creative design. At first glance you would never take Jesse as a successful entrepreneur, but with this mans previous track record of business ventures, Club Diablo is bound to be a favorite.
Stay informed and I'll see you on Washington Street.

Webby Awards: Eddie Izzard Makes the List; Twice!
Found in ... Some Kind`a News , Web Dev & Code Monkey Talk
[via: Liquid Generation's Suck My Blog]
The boys and girls of L.G. have listed the 2005 Webby Nominees for Humor. One of my favorite comedians Eddie Izzard was fortunate enough to be nominated twice, once for best celebrity web site and in the humor category. Congratulations Eddie! Check out the site it's actually quite funny. I especially like the page Eddie's Fridge; a flash game that allows you to place pre created words on a line (be as creative as you like) and then Eddie says the phrase.
If you are unfamiliar with the Webby Awards, I do suggest you check out the nominee page, it has links to all the nominee's pages and if you are a developer/designer or just a fan of cool sites, there is plenty to steal borrow from.

Mac Mini: It's so Damn Cute
Found in ... Techno-Toys , Technoramblings
I just heard back from my friend who I was computer shopping with yesterday, and she was telling me how excited she was about her new toy. That reminded me of the experience and seeing the Mac Mini, and thinking about it as a desktop machine. If you are mulling over the idea of picking up a new desktop machine, the Mac Mini could be allot of fun. Yes it's cute and would certainly be the center piece of many conversations when you have guests over, but also a major space saver. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who likes to experiment with allot of processor intensive software (photoshop CS) because I don't think it's built to handle that type of work load. But as a basic machine to write word docs, email, surf the net, watch/write/listen to DVD's and CD's and your every day computer chores, I think it's a great idea. I don't know to much about the OS (Safari) (Panther) but they all seem to act similar in the Mac world. After you get use to the differences from a Windows environment I think people tend to enjoy the Mac OS much better (once you go Mac you never go back). For $500 I may pick one up on general principal, this doesn't include a monitor but that's OK. The cost of laptops are reaching up to 3k; when searching for a desktop your choices are limited, all the machines seem to be offering the same old stuff and picking the best one is difficult, so be different and consider the Mini.
Update:I guess Safari is the browser. Thanks Paul [you dick].

SixApart and Adobe Sitting in a Tree ...
Found in ... Blog Stuff , Some Kind`a News
Is it over for all of us MovableType developers? It appears that Adobe and integrating MT design tools into the next release of Adobe Go Live (CS2). It looks like they will be adding these tools so that designers can incorporate blogging into their web projects with ease. I personally have mixed feelings about this. Yes I think it's great that SixApart is doing so well, and I hope they continue to grow -shameless ass kissing so I can get a job-, but on the other hand as a MT developer myself -you wouldn't tell from the looks of this site, but really I have chops- I don't want every web designer in the World to be able to whip up a fancy Blog in no time at all. This is going to disturb the ballance of multimedia, designers being able to add tagged languages to their projects. I'm scared, I really am.

Kottke and The Empire Strikes Back
Found in ... Blog Stuff , Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
We all know that Jason Kottke is my blog hero right? I surfed Kottke.org this afternoon and began reading his review of "The Empire Strikes Back". In this review Jason admits his Star Wars Geekness, and continues to describe some of the hidden plots that struck him this time and had passed him by in the past.
Something that struck me while watching Empire is that every time I see a Star Wars film, I catch something I missed the previous 50 times .... this time around for me occurred during Luke and Vader's first meeting in Cloud City. I never noticed that Vader isn't trying to turn Luke to the Dark Side to join him and the Emperor. He wants Luke to help him overthrow the Emperor and they'll rule as father and son. And then that sets up all sorts of weird shifting alliances and intrigue between the three of them...

Getting Nostalgic Over Why the Movie Splash is So Good
Found in ... Brain Spill , Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
Every Weekend I usually spend the nights at my buddy Anthony's house. This is because I am 26 years old, and I am currently living with my parents -don't ask- and I like to be away on the days I can sleep in. This week was no different, and on Sunday Anthony and I usually watch a large amount of T.V. -this is because we are huge move dorks and we like to spit out movie lines all day-. This day we watched Splash staring Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah -who I was told wears a prosthetic finger, is there any truth to that?-, John Candy and we cant leave out Eugene Levy. My homeboy and I were sitting there watching this movie, and reminiscing of the days when we were kids -because I was like 10 when this movie was big-. We talked bout how much we admired actors like Tom Hanks and John Candy; and how weird that was since we were only in grade school, we should have had bigger heroes, like sports stars or something. But anyway, we noticed how much we missed seeing John Candy in flicks.

A Relationship Rekindled between Audi and Gawker Media
Found in ... Blog Stuff

Mind my poor graphic, but hey it's all I had to work with on short notice. I may be a bit late on this one but I like to believe I am pretty quick. I noticed on Jalopnik that Audi has returned as one of the advertisers. I am not sure if they are sponsoring the site, but they do seem to have a major presence. Now I admit I rarely read Jalopnik -what can I say I'm not a car guy- but since I have a stiffy for Gawker Media -I'll tell ya later- I like to stay abreast to what they are doing on all their sites. Audi was the original sponsor of the auto junky site after its launch, but some time later they pulled out and we saw that the NYT auto section had taken over as the primary sponsor. I personally didn't think that was a good sign for the online publication but a sponsor is a sponsor. It is nice to see Audi back, and it certainly gives an indication that Gawker Media continues to stay focused.

ROS Spoilers & Toy Frenzy: Thanks Dr. Sidious & Bukezilla
Found in ... Some Kind`a News
Many people this weekend were concerned about the death of Pope John Paul II, but others in the more "Geek" areas of life had other events to focus their energy towards. That of course was the Star Wars Midnight Madness Revenge of the Sith toy release at Toys R` Us. My compadres Dr. Sidious and Bukezilla were there to capture the excitement and beat on all the weaker of the geeks -being bigger and meaner than most of these people makes it easier to get what you want-. I personally do not buy these toys but I always love the story. Bukezilla has posted a few pictures from his handy camera phone from and gives us a quick bit on what the Star Wars Toy Midnight Madness is really like.
Also -not to completely go Geek on you but I got all this news today- ot seems that Sir Steves Guide has many many spoilers within its forums. Thanks to Dr. Sidious you can check out a few picturs from the upcoming film that show the creation of Vader Pic 1 | Pic 2. Sorry to all who do not like spoilers.

April Fools Day: The Best Spoof I've Seen in Years
Found in ... Blog Stuff
As we all know today is April Fools Day, and today is a day in which many enjoy placing witty little tricks on each other. During my years of wondering the Blogging community, many of the "Topper Dogs" have done cute little switcheroos and manipulations to their sites as April Fools pranks. This year I was rather disappointed in the effort. Usually I can count on something clever from MetaFilter, but it seems they forgot or just plan old lost interest. In past years MetaFilter has done total site skins to make it look like they had been taken over by Google -which was hilarious-, but to my dismay absolutely ZERO effort this year. Speaking of Google, they too have completed fine misconceptions in the past. This year the minds at Google were not as bad as MetaFilter, but I still think their stab at a good joke was rather lame. Check out the Google Gulp pageto view this year trick. It's cute don't get me wrong, but I still think it is a bit short of a knee slapper. Then just before I was going to give up, I swung by the fine people at Defamer -not expecting them to play a prank, just to read whats up- and they had a post to a new Blog Hosting site TeeVee. This new blogging service is for super stars who want to Blog, and it is owned by Matthew Perry. I honestly hope that this is the playful doings of the beloved SixApart, because if it is Frick'n Brilliant thank you SixApart for making my day. Seriously check out the site, they really did put a lot of effort on this one. Over 6 or 7 mock star Blogs, and a demo section. They even added a link to their more hardcore version Immovable Object. Frick'n Brilliant.
p.s. And if it wasn't SixApart, then who ever you are, you're frick'n Brilliant
