Countdown to King Kong
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

As many know Peter Jackson is finishing up his rendition of the 1933 classic "King Kong". In fact the first trailer for the movie is now available online and I highly recommend giving it a look see if you're interested in the movie.
I have been hearing mixed feelings about this project, number one is the question of Jackson's talents. From zombie movie to Middle Earth, was the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy a one/three shot wonder, or is Jackson truly a major creative force in the film industry? Let's not forget that the King Kong story has been done many times and reiterating scenes we have scene time and time again just with fancy CGI is not going to impress.
Another factor which I can say worries me not a bit, is the casting of Jack Black as Carl Denham. People are saying that he is not talented enough for a serious role. It's one thing to be fat and wacky and another when you have a major supporting role in a dramatic film. I personally think that the casting of Mr. Black is one of the major selling/strong aspects of the picture. I hate to boast but I knew Jack Black was going to be huge star after seeing him in "Airborne" as a bully rollerblader. After that I was always psyched to see him in a movie. When he poped up in "The Jackal" as the quarky weapons guy, I said to myself, this guy is going to be all over the place. So I do not feel concerned about what Jack Black will add to the show.
All in all the cast that has been assembled for the King Kong remake is rather impressive. We have Naomi Watts staring as Ann Darrow the actress who steals the heart of the mighty Kong, Adrien Brody plays Jack Driscoll the leading man to Naomi's Ann and a few other familiar faces from Jackson's stable of talent. Andy Serkis provides the movement of Kong much like he did as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies and he also plays a small part as a cook.
The visuals look spectacular, which is not surprising coming from the creator of 3 fantastically visual projects, and Kong himself looks more real and seems to move like a true gorilla and not a man in an ape suit.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie, one for its visuals and the other two are JAck Black and Naomi Watts. Jack is hysterically funny and I am positive he will do a great job and Naomi, well lets just say you can't blame Kong for wanting to carry her around - she's a total babe and I dig the Aussie accent, even though she wont be using it in this movie.
What do you think?
