"Poultrygeist: Attack of the Chicken Zombies!" Filmed in Buffalo
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube

Unbelievable! I can't believe I missed this opportunity and it was right there under my nose -well in my home town at least-. Troma Entertainment creators of "The Toxic Avenger has completed filming of their new film Poultrygeist: Attack of the Chicken Zombies right here in Buffalo and I missed it. I so would have been an extra for this movie if I had known more about it. The Buffalo Niagara Film Commission had it listed on their site and I still missed out -I must be slacking-.
Basically the premise is about a Chicken shack is built on an ancient graveyard and chicken zombies rise from the grave terrorizing the people of Buffalo. What better place to have this than the home of the chicken wing. In the true spirit of Troma pictures, this is to be a gory cheesy ass film, but that's the fun part.
The converted the old McDonalds on Bailey Ave. to the American Chicken Bunker -as shown above- and completed their filming earlier this month. Keep an eye out for Poultrygeist: Attack of the Chicken Zombies! You might see someone you know in it.

TMB is Moving Up in the InterWeb
Found in ... Blog Stuff
I received an emial from The Movie Blog's editor John Campea this morning -that's right, I'm cool like that- and he was very excited to announce that TMB was mentioned on USA Today's website under Hot Sites & TV Shows. This is HUGE -as I replied to John- for TMB. I've been an avid reader of TMB for a long time now and it has been something to watch this site gain in credibility and popularity. I have always been impressed by the crew's take on film and often their information on up and coming pictures are correct -if they are wrong they let you know-. So congratulation John, Richard and Doug, keep it up and before you know it you'll be syndicated all over the web. Check out TMB and post your comments - tell them Brad sent ya.

Courtesy of LifeHacker is this cool little quiz which calculates your life expectancy. Fill out the questions to the best of your knowledge and submit your results. Then the system calculates your approximate age of death based on your answers. I am expected to live to the age of 85, which is pretty cool but my Grandfather just turned 95 -so much for modern medicine-. Give it a go and comment on your results here.

"Bite My Shinny Metal Ass!" The Bender PC
Found in ... Techno-Toys
This is cool. I'm a big fan of the show Futurama, and my favorite character if the robot Bender. Via Gizmodo and Boing Boing is this link to a site describing how to make a PC Casing that looks like Bender. The one pictured below can store Terabites of data, has a DVD burner, USB and speaks "Bite My Shinny Metal Ass!" on command. It would look great in my den.

Holy Schnike: Tommy Boy Special Edition DVD
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
One of my most favorite movies of the past 10 years is about to be re-released on a special edition DVD. That's right boys and girls, your lovable big dumb doof Tommy Boy is coming to DVD -again- on August 30th.
I love this movie, and it will be nice to watch it again to remind myself of how great the duo of Chris Farley and David Spade was. If you don't agree I suggest you go watch Beverly Hills Ninja and They Might be Heros to solidify that statment.
Since it is a SE DVD here are the added features -which I find very important-:
- Commentary with Director Peter Segal
- 4 Featurettes
- 6 Deleted Scenes
- 6 Alternate Takes
- 7 Storyboard Comparisons
- 15 Extended Scenes
- Gag Reel
- Photo Gallery
- Theatrical Trailer
- 19 TV Spots
What do you think of Tommy Boy?

Footage from ComicCon: Superman Returns
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
I know this is old, ComicCon was last month and you have probably already scene this, but I just watched it and I must say it was really nice to hear the Superman theme again. I have mixed expectations about this movie. I just wacthed Superman the other day -it's on TMC this month- and I'm sorry but Chris Reeve is Superman and it is going to take a lot to make me see things otherwise. In addition -as much as I love Kevin Spacey- it is going to be equally difficult to sell me on Lex. As of now no one can play the "greatest criminal mind that ever lived" better than Gene Hackman! Lets hope I am proven wrong.
Enough rambling; here is the direct link to the quick time footage from SDCC. Give it a look see and share your thoughts.
Does hearing the Superman theme do the same for you as it did for me?
What are your expectations of Superman Returns?
Are you dissatisfied with the first impression of the new Superman?

What do You Say When Your Child Asks You; "What are Drugs?"
Found in ... Brain Spill
Guest editor over at LifeHacker Erica Sadun -Gina is still out being a smarty pants- gives us a good answer to the dreaded question "What are drugs?".
Lets set the scene shall we; You are all grown up and have children of your own -not like they couldn't be somebody else's kid-. Your young one comes up to you one day and asks you to explain what drugs are and you have to be sure to give them a good answer. I mean if you screw this one up it could be the end. The next thing you know your pride and joy is out at Dave Matthews shows and hanging out at the local Taco Bell. It can be a pivotal point in a childs life so don't mess this one up.
The answer is pretty good I must say, here is a snipet from the main post:
Some drugs are okay for you if you take a little and very bad if you take a lot. That’s why we always read about drugs before we take them. We want to make sure we take the right amount so we don’t get hurt from them.Well maybe not the best block to take, but it will lead me into the next dreaded question your kids will ask -I asked my parents-. That is the big questions "Did you ever do drugs when you were younger?".
There you go, how do you answer that one?
Do you tell the truth?
Or lie your stinking face off untill they are well into their 20's?

Another Google IPO
Found in ... Technoramblings
Courtesy of Media Bistro, it has been announced that Google is going to add roughly 4bn to its financial resources with a second stock offering. Google announced that this will provide the company the capital to acquire new business ventures and some development (VoIP rumors). Personally I think this is great. With the current cost of Google [GOOG] being so high, I can never afford a 100 shot lot. Perhaps this will drop the current value so more people like myself can buy a piece of the Google corporation. Experts are not forecasting this to be a negative loss for current stock holders, because the company is growing and they foresee the value to continue its escalating trend. He are some notes from the story:
According to the Wall Street Journal, possibilities include major acquisitions in Asia and 'secret plans' for VoIP Internet telephony. Other suggestions include expanding its nascent video search and developing an electronic payment system. VoIP rumours were given weight by the news that earlier this week the company acquired Android, a portable wireless handset maker founded by a former Apple engineer, Andy Rubin. For Asia, read China, where Yahoo recently took a 40 per cent stake in an e-commerce operation. So what are your thoughts? The extra cash will raise its reserves to about $7bn, more than Yahoo!'s $3.4bn, but far short of Microsoft's $37.7bn, a not-insubstantial part of which is being ploughed into MSN search.
The downside for existing stock owners is that their holding will be diluted, adding to concerns that the company may be overvalued by as much as 150 per cent. But it is no dot-com disaster; the company is profitable and expects to continue to grow its revenues from online advertising.

Entering the Campaign Trail: Christopher Walken 2008
Found in ... Don't let the Man get You Down

The actor known for psychologically damaged characters in "The Deer Hunter," "The Dead Zone" and dozens of other movies going back to Woody Allen's "Annie Hall," is off and running for the White House.I'm not 100% positive on the validity of this announcment, I may even be behind on the news -I tend to fall far from the political loop-, but thanks to Buke -who writes very little and displays big thoughts- for the link to Christopher Walken's Presidential campaign site.

Steve Martin's Shop Girl: The Movie
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
This is great news, matter of fact I have no clue how I missed it. For some random reason I visited Steve Martin's Home Page just to check it out and see what type of things are on it. First I saw the info on his newer book which I have to read -I've read all of them- and a blurb on the Oscar buzz surrounding the upcoming Shop Girl Movie. I immediately lost it just a bit and had to go and check out the trailer. This is going to be my favorate movie since Lost in Translation. Allow me to give you some primer on why this is so god damn exciting. Shop Girl is a Novella which was written by Steve Martin, a comedy about a plain Jane who works the glove counter at Macie's (will be played by Claire Danes). She meets an older man who travels between 2 cities on a regular basis for business and has a lax view on commitment and relationships (played by Steve Martin). His suave personality and wealthy life style attracts the young shop girl and they begin a romance. Meanwhile an odd lazy slacker type (played by Jason Schwartzman) begins courting her at the same time. He has a very small life and little money. Although he is much closer to her age he is much less interesting than the confident traveler.
It's pretty much your standard love triangle with some modern twists and humorous situations (masterbation scenes). I loved this quick read -as I have all of his books- and I am pumped to see it being adapted to the silver screen. Check out the Trailer it doesn't disappoint. If this picture turns out as good as the book we could be looking at some nominations for the often overlooked Steve Martin.
The thing I can't understand is why am I only finding out about this now? I usually have a decent scoop on the up and coming flicks, but this is being released October 21st. I've known about the Pink Panther project for a year now and that isn't being released until winter.
In any event, watch the trailer and let me know what you think. Could this be the movie Steve has always wanted to write and star in? I think so!

Best DVD Purchase in Years: The Muppet Show Season 1
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
It's time to get things started on the Muppet Show tonight. That is the famous tag line from the opening theme of the fantastic Muppet Show. I have such fond memories of the Muppet Show growing up, I was such a huge fan. Perhaps that is one of the things that made me so odd in my adult life, but I like to think that it contributed to my creativity and imagination. In any event I recently purchased the DVD of season 1 of the Muppet Show and it has turned out to be the best $25 I have spent in years. I can't stop watching it, there is so many scenes that take me back to my youth and so many new jokes that I can appreciate now that I am older. Jim Henson was truly a genius and an innovator. I was surprised to hear how adult much of the humor was in the show, and for a comedy shot in 1976 the special effects are rather impressive -simple but slick-.
One of my favorite items on the DVD is the bonus features. The original pilot of the Muppet Show is on disk 4, and actually has Sam the Eagle and Floyd Pepper as main characters. In fact Kermit only has a quick one line scene. Still very interesting and funny, no human guest star and no real flow to the show, but a great introduction to the Muppets.
Another awesome extra is the Pitch Reel produced by Jim Henson to sell the show to CBS. This is a great extra -inspiration for those of you who do presentations on a regular basis-, it tells you all about the logic behind the show, why it is genius, who the target demographic is and seduces the executives with words and imagery of fame and tons of money.
Finally; one last tid bit which brought a smile to my face was that no where on the DVD (box) was there a Disney logo or label. The Jim Henson company bought themselves back from Disney and I think it was the best thing they have done for the company. Disney killed and buried the Muppets. Never letting them express themselves as they did in the glory days and made very difficult for them to be embraced by new audiences. I have a feeling that this could be the beginning of a Muppet come back.
If you were a fan of the Muppet Show I highly recommend picking it up, you will be extremely pleased. I can only hope that it sells well enough to continue the series so we can see great episodes like "Star Wars", "Dudley Moore", "Kenny Rogers" -the gambler was great- and many more.

Special Visit from Beethoven Radio's Dan Maselli
Found in ... Brain Spill , Music That I like
This is very cool. Ways back I posted Soothing Sanity, noting how I enjoyed listening to while I was working. Now I see that D.J Dan Maselli has left a comment on the site. This is great; not only does this mean that BerfNet continues to get new exposure -not bad for a blog on random crap- but it also emphasizes the point I made on how cool these D.J's are.
I may not be a classical music buff, but it sure does calm me down ... the station has very down to earth D.J's like Dan Maselli. Here is the comment left by Dan:
Hey! Thanks for the props. It is nice to be considered "down to earth". This is a tough business to just be a regular down to earth person, but I try like hell. I am glad that the music soothes. Keep in touch, Dan Maselli Mornings 8-12 Beethoven Radio.
If you're not familiar with the site, Beethoven Radio broadcasts over the web and has listeners from all over the world and I know this because when you make a request the D.J tells us who made the request and were they are from. A few of my favorite times of the day are the 11:00 matinee -were thay play pieces from your favorite flicks-, the 2:00 movie -same thing-, mid morning Mozart, and the 5:00 rock (?) -were they play orchestras covering rock tunes-. So check it out, not only will it help keep you relaxed and focused at work, but you will also learn about classical music -which is much cooler than you would think- and put a bit of culture in your life.

Crayons and pencils are ok, but they look like a baby did them sometimes. I'm good at pens. I can do really good pen drawings. I'm just learning to read so my Dad is helping me. He types what I say and makes sure it is spelled good. A lot of people liked this picture a lot when my Dad put it up.
So what do you think of Thomas's works?

What Does Ebert Think? Wedding Crashers
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
This came with some surprise for me, reading the review of "Wedding Crashers" from Roger Ebert. Very disappointed in the film, felt the fault laid on the hands of the producers, and that to many times an opportunity for a big laugh was missed or wasted. Ebert did not give "Wedding Crashers" a good review, infact he scored it at 2.5 stars, which is strange because I have yet to hear a bad thing about the movie from my peers and good buds. I am getting reactions like "It's frick'n hysterical", "It's funnier than Old School" and "It's Vince Vaughn's best comedic role yet". So you can see why I am a bit confused on what Ebert hated so much.
"Wedding Crashers" is all runway and no takeoff ... we sit back expecting the movie to break loose, but the plot makes pointless detours ... Incredibly, the movie never fully exploits Walken's gift for weirdly inspired flights of logical lunacy ... Toward the end, the movie goes gooey ... You know all those horror stories about a cigar-chomping producer who screens a movie and says they need to lose 15 minutes and shoot a new ending? "Wedding Crashers" needed a producer like that.Ouch! At least Ebert does send some props the way of Vaughn and Wilson, but he generally tears the movie a new asshole. I have not yet scene it, and I do plan on it. I am a bit worried now but my attitude remains good due to all of the good review I am getting from my pack of misfits.
Did you see the movie? What are your thoughts on the story and how was the chemistry between Vaughn and Willson?
