What Does Ebert Think? Wedding Crashers
Found in ... Flick Picks & the Boob-Tube
This came with some surprise for me, reading the review of "Wedding Crashers" from Roger Ebert. Very disappointed in the film, felt the fault laid on the hands of the producers, and that to many times an opportunity for a big laugh was missed or wasted. Ebert did not give "Wedding Crashers" a good review, infact he scored it at 2.5 stars, which is strange because I have yet to hear a bad thing about the movie from my peers and good buds. I am getting reactions like "It's frick'n hysterical", "It's funnier than Old School" and "It's Vince Vaughn's best comedic role yet". So you can see why I am a bit confused on what Ebert hated so much.
"Wedding Crashers" is all runway and no takeoff ... we sit back expecting the movie to break loose, but the plot makes pointless detours ... Incredibly, the movie never fully exploits Walken's gift for weirdly inspired flights of logical lunacy ... Toward the end, the movie goes gooey ... You know all those horror stories about a cigar-chomping producer who screens a movie and says they need to lose 15 minutes and shoot a new ending? "Wedding Crashers" needed a producer like that.Ouch! At least Ebert does send some props the way of Vaughn and Wilson, but he generally tears the movie a new asshole. I have not yet scene it, and I do plan on it. I am a bit worried now but my attitude remains good due to all of the good review I am getting from my pack of misfits.
Did you see the movie? What are your thoughts on the story and how was the chemistry between Vaughn and Willson?
