What a Mouth on Mena
Found in ... Blog Stuff
This is rather interesting and I'm a bit late posting this due to my laziness. Bloggers out there may find this entertaining. According to The Register (a UK site), Six Apart co-founder an president Mena Trott lost her cool a bit at Les Blogs (a Blogging conference in Paris).
Mena had made some suggestions and expressed some discomfort with the way blogging has become nasty in circles. This of course is true, people do get nasty and many blogs post tons of false info and target others -hell I've done it-. This caused a member of the audience to post a comment on the IRC board which was running in the conference. Ben Metcalfe tossed up a "Bullshit" comment which got Mena going.
The two exchanged opinions and it sounds as if punches were not held back. This lead to Mena calling Ben an "Asshole", which I find funny because Mena was just talking about being nicer. In any event, the whole tiff blew up on the web. In one corner we have one of the innovators of the most popular Internet technologies since email and in the other corner a blogger who works for the BBC.
Both points had stability. Mena's touched more on the responsibility we bloggers should adopt and Ben's was more on the side of free press and censorship. I personally have taken both paths from time to time.
Both have posted their take on the episode so check them out and tell me what you think.

The online cross talk does emphasize peoples points on the community that has grown within the Blogosphere.

Sponsor BerfNet ...Message from the Berf I may be a slacker - a modern day Bill Murray type - but that doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. I have the type of readers that live the slacker way and plainly enjoy life. If this is your demographic why not sponsor my ass. I could use the help, so if you're interested Click here to learn more about sponsorship opportunities. Thanks. Berf Net continues below ... |
